August 2026 · Healdsburg, CA
Two Saturdays, one real film. We spend the first day getting cameras, lights, and sound gear into your hands, and the second day out shooting a documentary about a local artist, with the whole group working as the crew. About a week later we meet online and I edit the film live so you can watch how it all comes together.
The founding rate is $350, and the class is capped at six people. No experience needed, ages 18 and up.
We cover story and structure, camera and lenses, lighting an interview, location sound, and how to actually talk to someone on camera. It's a small group and everything is hands-on, so you spend the day working the gear, not watching slides.
We go make a documentary about a local artist. Everyone works a real crew role, everything from day one gets put to use, and I direct. By the end of the day the film is shot.
We meet online and I cut the film in DaVinci Resolve while you watch and ask questions. The session is recorded, and when the film is finished you're credited on it.

A notebook or laptop and water. Cameras, lighting, and sound gear are all provided. If you own gear you want to get better with, bring it and we'll put it to work.
Both Saturdays run 10am to 4pm with an hour for lunch. Day one is hands-on stations in the classroom. Day two is a real documentary shoot on location.
Nope! If you have it, feel free to bring it, but it's not necessary. You'll get hands-on experience with my cameras.
About a week later we meet online and I cut the documentary live in DaVinci Resolve. You'll see exactly how the footage we shot becomes a finished film, and you can ask anything as I work. The session is recorded so you can rewatch it.
Yes. All three sessions are being recorded, and an online course will be built from them. Workshop students get first access when it ships.
Snacks will be available, but lunch is not provided. Parking is available nearby.
Handled case by case, and we'll always be fair. If a session date has to move, your seat rolls to the new date or you get a full refund.
The two Saturdays are in person. Only the edit session is online.

Yes. The cohort's documentary gets finished and you're credited on it. More importantly, you'll know how it was made, because you made it.
